Project Description
The key objectives of the “AlUla Urban Heritage Survey and Registration Project” are as follows:
Develop a full architectural and topographical survey of the Urban Heritage fabric in AlJadidah, utilising cutting-edge technologysurveying tools and innovative techniques to facilitate access to a large 3D dataset (3D modelling, lasergrammetric andphotogrammetric survey, architectural documentation, CAD drawings …).–Establish an inventory and compile a complete geodatabase, systematically documenting each building within the three designatedareas
Propose and implement an adapted approach and methodology for studying the urban and architectural fabric, ensuring athorough comprehension of the Urban Heritage in the areas of AlJadidah, Central AlUla, and AlManshiya.- Propose general recommendations for the long-term protection and conservation of historically significant buildings in these areas.
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is actively involved in defining a long-term master plan for the development and preservation of the AlUla region. The goal is to enhance its natural and cultural heritage, treating it as a unified living environment while alsoimplementing an exemplary world-class program
In the framework of the “AlUla Urban Heritage Survey and Registration Project”, RCU’s primary objective is to gain an understandingof the Urban Heritage in the areas of AlJadidah, Central AlUla, and AlManshiya. This understanding will serve to raise awarenesswithin the local community about its recent history and to prioritize actions for the RCU’s conservation and development strategiesin these areas.RCU aims to safeguard and develop these sites while preserving their intrinsic values and characteristics. This approach will introducea diverse range of uses to the proposed sites, promote cultural and tourism activities, bring benefits to the local community, andcontribute to the sustainable development of the entire region.
